CPRL’s Adam Morgan posted the fastest time in qualifying for the second successive British Touring Car Championship event at Donington Park, lapping over three tenths of a second faster than Toyota’s Josh Cook.

Morgan, sporting a new livery for the CPRL squad this weekend, headed up a Mercedes 1-2 in the first part of qualifying, lapping the Grand Prix circuit a tenth of a second faster than team-mate Daniel Rowbottom.

However, he will start alongside Toyota’s Cook for the qualifying race; although Cook’s time of 1 minute 32.982 seconds was slower than both of the leading Mercedes, the grid is decided such that the order of each group occupies its own side of the grid.

That means Rowbottom will start third, directly behind Morgan, with the MB Motorsport Toyota of Gordon Shedden in fourth, directly behind stablemate Cook.

Dan Cammish was the leading NAPA Racing UK driver in fifth, with the second Laser Tools Racing Toyota of Árón Taylor-Smith also putting in a strong showing to qualify in sixth.

Championship leader Ash Sutton had been fourth fastest in his group, equating to seventh on the grid, whilst his title rival Tom Ingram was only ninth in the same group, resulting in the Team VERTU driver starting from 17th.

Drama befell WSR’s Charles Rainford in the second group, as he suffered from a brake failure and could only manage 22nd after limping back to the pits.
