Tom Chilton scored a lights-to-flag win in the final, reverse-grid British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Knockhill, earning his first victory of the season.

The top 12 drivers from race two were reversed for race three, resulting in Team VERTU’s Chilton gaining pole with NAPA Racing UK’s Lewis Selby alongside.

At the start, Chilton quickly scampered into a commanding lead, whilst Selby held second in front of team-mates Sam Osborne and Dan Cammish.

Further back, Laser Tools Racing’s Gordon Shedden, from sixth on the grid, picked up a left-rear puncture within the first few corners, resulting in his Toyota precariously sliding through the chicane, luckily the Scot emerging unscathed. Shedden pitted for replacement rubber, but fell to the back of the pack.

Cammish and Osborne swapped places on lap three at the hairpin, before Osborne then went off two laps later after carrying too much speed into McIntyres corner whilst trying to pass Dexter Patterson and nudged the barriers, dropping him to almost last.

Selby held second until lap eight when Plato Racing’s Adam Morgan, who was one of only six drivers running the faster soft tyre in the race, overtook along the start-finish straight, having a lap earlier also passed Cammish.

However, Morgan couldn’t close the gap to Chilton, who was also running the soft tyre, and Chilton scored his 19th BTCC victory by just over three seconds.

Cammish completed the podium, whilst Power Maxed Racing’s Patterson was the top Independent driver in fourth, having followed Cammish past Selby on lap nine.

WSR’s Charles Rainford finished in fifth, ahead of team-mate Daryl De Leon in sixth.

Plato Racing’s Daniel Rowbottom took seventh, whilst Toyota’s Josh Cook came through from 15th on the grid to finish in eighth, thanks in part to a strong start that saw him gain three places on the opening lap alone.

The top ten was completed by Team VERTU duo Ricky Collard and Tom Ingram, the latter having been forced to have an engine change after his accident damage in race two.

Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble was part of a feisty mid-pack group that produced some entertaining close-quarters racing. The Audi driver took 11th, ahead of NAPA’s Ash Sutton in 12th, whilst Selby fell to 13th.

Restart Racing duo Chris Smiley and James Dorlin were ahead of Sutton at one stage on lap 11, when the latter was briefly out of the points, but they fell to 14th and 15th respectively at the chequered flag.
